Lego Marvel Superheroes: Maximum Overload

If I learned nothing else from Linkara’s History of Power Rangers series it’s that silly shows  aimed at kids can be seriously analyzed or talked about at some length, and that brings us to this…Lego Marvel Superheroes: Maximum Overload, a webseries (collected into one episode) I stumbled upon on Netflix the other night with my amazing wife. And you guys…it was SO. GOOD. SO GOOD!!

So much fun

Basically the plot is as follows; Loki (who else?) is bored in a hidden Asgardian snow fort and looking for someone to prank (god of mischief and all) and that’s when comes across (Ultimate) Doctor Octopus breaking into a S.H.I.E.L.D. base in New Jersey (“oh…Jersey…”). At this point Loki decides to mess with Spiderman (“THE MAN OF SPIDERS! ANGST-Y ONE!”) and ‘overload’ Doc Oc by hitting him in the face with his newest evil creation ‘Norn Frost’ (a snowball  that will overload a super-being’s powers (basically, make them even stronger) and give Loki mind control over them). From there we encounter Venom, Iron Man, Iron Fist, Hulk, Manderin (in a great parody of his treatment in Iron Man 3), Abomination, and Thor (so so good). We also get brief appearances from Pepper Pots, Black Widow, Captain America, Wolverine, a GREAT Stan Lee cameo, and J Jonah Jameson (with JK Simmons reprising the role as the only thing worth carrying over from the awful Raimi/McGuire/Dunst films).

So what makes this video such a fun watch (and rewatch)? A couple things. It’s a blast to see all these characters/alternate versions (mcu, ultimate, more comic based) interacting with each other in such a light comic-booky tone (ah, light comic books…you’re fun to visit too). But the best part is easily the organic, punny, character based humor (“Spiderman? Again?! AMAZING! SPECTACULAR!”) that is so ingrained in the story. I swear, the writers were like “the heck with it, nobodies watching” and squeezed in all these references that fans would get and would fly over kids heads (and not in a 90’s kids show/movies way where it’s sex jokes and innuendo). It’s all clean humor here. Punny, silly, character and (meme) reference based outstanding humor.

So if you’re a long time marvel fan, someone who just digs the (great) Lego Marvel games, or just looking for a fun way to kill 30mins than this video is for you, and you can find it below – or on youtube or (Canadian Netflix). Hope you enjoy.

Thanks for reading. And may God bless you all my friends.

Huh, even with your vile blasphemies against the best Spiderman movies, I’m still tempted to see if Prime has this 😉
    *heads out*

And Prime has it! Awesome. I know what’s going into my queue now. Thanks.
